First Steps Online
Building My Website
Hello, I want to talk a little about why and how this website was made. Let's start with why. It all began with a video on YouTube (now deleted) that discussed personal websites and Neocities. I was never the "writing things" type of guy, but I liked the philosophy behind it. So, I built one. As I mention on the homepage, I want to talk about various topics on this website through the many blogs I'll (probably not) write.
But how was it made? This site had one previous iteration. The previous version was based on the idea of creating a 2000s-style website and utilizing "period-accurate" components. So, I followed an old guide on the Wayback Machine this one. I managed to build it using Adobe Fireworks and Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 on a ThinkPad X100e running Windows XP. Setting it up was kind of a hassle because of my USB, but that's another story. The result looked like this:
Previous version of the site
However, the final result didn't appeal to me that much. I'm not sure why, but it was somewhat easy to create, and I didn't learn as much HTML as I expected. So I made this version that you are seeing now, following this tutorial. It works, kinda. I'm good with computers, like building them and using the terminal, but I'm really bad at programming. That tutorial taught me something, but it wasn't enough. I wanted a navbar and an entry list, but the guide didn't show how to make them. So, I made those myself. It was a bit of a pain, but I think I managed to make it work. I’m happy with the result. It’s still under construction (lol), as I still need to create the about page, add a favicon, and other things. But it’s going, slowly, but it’s going.
Well, that’s what I have to offer, and thank you for reading my blog post! :)
